Tiffany Wye, an early career teacher at Shoalhaven High School on the south coast of New South Wales, has used innovative and inclusive teaching methods to substantially improve student attendance, engagement and learning outcomes.

By creating a safe and welcoming environment for her students, Tiffany has achieved some incredible results, including some units achieving a 100% submission rate, increasing attendance from 68% to 85%, and improving one student’s marks significantly by 40%. Tiffany’s use of visual aids and interactive methods, like escape rooms and board games, has also further boosted student engagement.

Motivated by her own experience with dyslexia, Tiffany collaborated with the school’s Learning Support Team to develop a professional learning session on dyslexia for 40 teachers. She also shared her expertise at the DET Beginning Teacher Conference, to assist the development of her peers’ pedagogical skills. Her collaborative efforts have significantly enhanced teaching practices and student learning outcomes at her school and beyond.

Tiffany actively engages with her school community, coordinating excursions, leading school camps, volunteering at the Breakfast Club, and being part of the team that developed the first school-wide performance in over a decade. Her enthusiastic involvement has built strong relationships and improved student engagement.

Tiffany is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by students with learning disabilities and aspires to continue her professional development in this area so she can continue growing as an educator, networking with other professionals, and shaping capable and confident future learners.
