Toyota Australia Scholarship Program

Schools Plus is committed to helping students succeed at school. With the support of Toyota Australia, Schools Plus is offering financial scholarships for young people in Year 10 or 11 in the Sutherland Shire. They are available to students enrolled in a secondary, combined or special school.

The scholarships are not just about financial payments, but also focus on the different kinds of support and encouragement that meet individual student needs and equip them with skills to succeed.

  • Applications must be from schools in the Sutherland Shire and are available to students enrolled in a secondary, combined or special school.
  • Students must be currently completing Year 10 or Year 11
  • Students must be continuing their education in 2021 at the same school submitting the application
  • Schools may submit an application for up to two students.

Please refer to the Guidelines for the link to the application and further information or the frequently asked questions below.

Applications are now open and close Friday 3 July 2020.

Please contact the School Operations Manager on 02 8318 1411 or schools@schoolsplus.org.au if you have any questions.

FAQs

What are the scholarships for?

Schools can apply for financial assistance on behalf of students to support activities that directly relate to their participation and/or education outcomes at the school. This could include compulsory subject fees (excludes school fees and voluntary contributions), uniform costs, tutoring, school supplies and materials, laptops and equipment, school excursions and incidental fees.

Please read the Guidelines of the scholarship for exact details about what the scholarship will provide.

How many Scholarships are available and what do the recipients receive?

There are 20 scholarships available and each is valued up to $2,000. Schools can submit an application for one or more students. If you are applying for more than one student at the school, a separate application is required for each student.

Schools can reapply for a student who were successful in previous Scholarship rounds who will be continuing their education at the same school in 2021.

Schools complete a short nomination form detailing a clear need for support, information about how the scholarship will make a difference to the student, and an indicative budget of how the funds will be spent.

Due to a limited number of scholarships available, schools who submit multiple applications may be contacted for additional information in the event that there are more applicants than scholarships.

Please read the guidelines before completing your submission.

When are applications open?

Applications open Tuesday 9 June at 9am AEST and will close Friday 3 July 2020 at midnight AEST. Late submissions will not be considered. Please read the Guidelines before completing your application.

Scholarships are awarded late November 2020 for funds to be expended in 2021.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • be enrolled at a secondary, combined or special school within the Sutherland Shire
  • be enrolled in a public, Catholic or independent school
  • currently completing Year 10 or 11
  • continuing their education at the same school in 2021

The socio-economic/family background of a student is a key consideration for selection.

Schools Plus is unable to fund anything that does not directly relate to benefiting the student’s education outcomes at the school.

Please read the Guidelines for more information.

When will I know if our student is successful?

All scholarships are carefully considered by a selection committee and schools will be notified via email in August 2020.

Due to a limited number of scholarships available, schools who submit multiple applications may be contacted for additional information in the event that there are more applicants than scholarships.

There may be an opportunity to formally acknowledge the scholarship for each student at the end of the year. This will be confirmed closer to the time.

Please read the Guidelines for further information.

If we are successful, when will the funds be transferred?

The scholarships are a one-off payment paid late November/early December 2020 to the school, and are to be made available to the student at the start of the 2021 school year, for expenses for the selected student throughout the school year.

The scholarship funds will be held by the school on behalf of the student and expenses paid as needed. Funds must be spent by December 2021.

Successful schools will be required to report back to Schools Plus about how the funds were spent, including copies of receipts. Please read the Guidelines for more information.

How do we apply?

Please read the Guidelines before putting in your submission – they provide further information about the submission process, eligibility and guidance on questions. You can then complete your application via Smarty Grants.

Please note, if you are applying for more than one student, you need to complete a separate application for each student. Due to a limited number of scholarships available, schools who submit multiple applications may be contacted for additional information in the event that there are more applicants than scholarships.

Submissions open Tuesday 9 June 2020 at 9am AEST and will close Friday 3 July 2020 midnight AEST. Late submissions will not be considered.
