Kids Together: Sharing Cultures, Sharing Schools 2019/20

La Grange Remote Community School, WA

Kids together: sharing cultures, sharing schools’

Since 2013 a total of 75 students from La Grange Community School (Bidyadanga remote Community) and 100 students from Swanbourne Primary School (Perth) have been travelling over 1500km to visit each other’s schools and communities.

La Grange Students are selected on the basis of their school attendance and behaviour.  The popularity of the trip to Perth helps encourage these positive school behaviours.

Remote kids and City kids visiting each other over seven years has created trust, empathy, cultural understanding, friendships and life long happy memories in both communities. We aim to build on this trust, and in the future offer subsequent visits for the older La grange School student to develop cultural understanding and work skills.

La Grange School needs to fundraise $15,000 each year for the Bidyadanga students to experience Perth and the school - it’s trip of a lifetime for these kids who would never get an opportunity like this.  (Swanbourne students self fund their own trip to Bidyadanga).

Kids Together: Sharing cultures, sharing schools.  This unique project, provide the children of the remote, La Grange School the opportunity to join the Swanbourne Primary school and its community, building cultural understanding, trust and a profound learning experience for all students.
