ECC Student Café

Eaton Community College, WA

Eaton Community College is situated in the South-West of Western Australia. The school has a large vocational cohort, with just under 90% of Year 11 and 12 students, studying a vocational program.

The school seeks funding to develop a student run cafe to support its Hospitality and Business students, to complete their Certificate II courses and develop practical skills.

Both hospitality and business have real job opportunities in the area. By running this project, the school aims to give its students the best chance of gaining post school employment in these areas.

As many of the students remain in the area post school, accessing meaningful employment will have benefits for the entire community.

Once the café is established, it will also enable the school to extend its offer of a nutritious breakfast to students, from one day a week to eventually five days a week.

Several staff have undertaken training, necessary to implement this project and the school has been building relationships with industry partners and Registered Training Organisations, who will support and provide further training to staff along the way.

The café will be accessible to community members visiting the Community library and retirement village, which backs on to the school grounds.

Funding is sought to enable the school to purchase additional furniture and equipment to complete the set up of its restaurant, including stainless steel prep benches, a commercial dishwasher and crockery & cutlery for 60 people.
