3D’s of Noarlunga Downs – Define, Design and Debate

Noarlunga Downs Primary School, SA

We are looking to invest in a Digital Maker Space, beginning with 3D Printers for student projects. Projects will develop students understanding of problem solving, collaboration and project management skills. Many of our students do not have access to this technology in their homes.

We are seeking donations to provide students with these types of technologies in order for them to develop the necessary skills and knowledge required, while applying them to real world situations.

Two teachers and up to 12 students will visit a local school who has been operating with coding and 3D printing for a number of years now and has established a 'Shark Tank' type learning environment, where students develop project management skills.

At Noarlunga Downs, we will be using the 3D printers to:

Define - ideas and solutions in a collaborative manner

Design - plans and programming code aimed to produce the desired solution(s)

Debate - which project designs are most efficient, sustainable and suitable to meet the needs of the task and the effectiveness of the designs.

Currently, students engage in online coding programs, with very little real world application. Investing in 3D printing technology will encourage teachers and students to 'have a go' initially and build upon their combined knowledge, skills and confidence to become proficient within this space.

Many students see themselves using technology in their futures. At Noarlunga Downs, we are aiming to provide opportunities for them to find their passions and pursue them with confidence.
