New Zealand Rugby Tour – 2019

Fountain Gate Secondary College, VIC

New Zealand Rugby Tour - 2019

We are a co-educational state school in Narre Warren in Melbourne's South-East.  Five years ago, we introduced our Rugby Union Academy, as a positive student engagement program.

Five years on the results speak for themselves.  Involvement in the Academy has grown from 30 students to 130 - all playing Rugby Union in their local Victorian state school.  Close to 50% of the program are girls. 85% are from a Maori or Polynesian background.  The greatest achievement of the Academy is the motivation and opportunities it gives to students.  All senior students are completing a full VCE course and working hard to stay in school to be part of the program.  To date, 100% of our squad are maintaining their grades and striving to gain entry into tertiary studies after school. Already we have 3 players move onto professional contracts after finishing school for the Rebels Men's and Women's teams - with many more in the eyes of selectors.

Rugby Tours to develop skills and provide life experiences

Our numbers have grown so great that we now are able to play 15 aside rugby for our school, something that would usually only been seen at private schools and is even more rare for a school in AFL dominated Victoria. Unfortunately, we have very little opposition to play against in Victoria, so will need to travel to find high quality opposition to develop our young up and coming players (many who already represent Victoria at the national level).

Starting in 2019 with a New Zealand tour, we want academy players, both boys and girls to have the opportunity to go on tour, play for their school and develop their rugby skills while building confidence and life aspirations.

With travel comes great costs. Many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, single income families or large families, we need help to make this happen.

New Zealand Rugby Tour - 2019

We have organised a tour for 10 days (August 6 - 15), to play games against New Zealand schools and experience New Zealand rugby culture for a squad of 30 boys.  This tour is sanctioned and supported by Rugby Victoria and is a first for a state school in Victoria.

If you love rugby union and want to support the development of local grown talent of students excelling in school then donate now.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Thank you with your support.

Don't forget to share this opportunity with others - together we will get our students to New Zealand this August and keep building Australia's Rugby Union talent.
