When Schools Plus was created, we set out with a very clear vision: to ensure that all young Australians are given the opportunity to reach their full potential through access to a great education.
Over the past two years, there have been many voices that have joined us to work towards this vision – and now, we have an opportunity to share them with you.
It is with great pleasure I welcome you to the Schools Plus blog – an exciting new platform to share the stories and knowledge of the inspiring educators and phenomenal supporters, who are working together to transform students’ lives.
Since 2015, we’ve been working with schools and donors across Australia to support more than 40,000 students in reaching their potential (see our latest Impact Report). During this time, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to visit many schools and see first-hand the significant role philanthropy can play in providing children with opportunities they may not have otherwise had.
These visits are a constant source of inspiration and confirmation that in bringing these projects to life we are having an impact. Whether it’s a head start program to prepare young ones for their first years at school or a trade training program to transition senior students into the workforce, every project is making a difference.
And while no two schools are the identical, there is one common thread which links them all: they are each led by passionate and dedicated teachers who are determined to provide their students with the best possible education.
This year, we’ve already had the opportunity to share the stories of some of these incredible educators through the Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards. And now through the Schools Plus blog, we hope to be able to share the stories of more wonderful teachers, as well as the students, parents and donors who have been impacted in bringing projects to life.
Educational disadvantage continues to be one the greatest barriers facing our young people. If we are going to fix this issue it’s vital that we create a greater knowledge and deeper understanding of how we can all work together to create and support an education that will allow our children to thrive.
Through connecting schools and supporters and telling their stories, we have a unique opportunity to inspire and influence practice across Australia – I hope that you’ll join us on this journey.
Together, we can close the education gap.
